Chargers Favored in NE-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - The University of New Haven football team has been picked as favorites to win the Northeast-10 Conference by the conference's head coaches. The conference office announced the Chargers as the preseason top pick on Wednesday in the 2011 NE-10 Football Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Coming off the 2010 conference championship, New Haven received 59 total points and six of the league's nine first place votes. Cross-town rival, Southern Connecticut State University was picked to finish second, by a narrow one point margin. The Owls also received two first place votes. Merrimack College wsa picked third with 47 points and received one first place vote. Bentley University with 43 points and American International College with 42 points rounded out the top five. Assumption College was sixth with 28 points, Saint Anselm College was seventh with 16 points and Pace University received eight points in ninth place.

The Chargers' preseason training camp is in full swing as the team enters its second week of practices today. New Haven will officially open the 2011 season on Saturday, September 3 when they host West Chester University (Pa.) at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium in a non-conference showdown.
