WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Following a 45-0 win over Northeast-10 foe Saint Anselm on Saturday, the University of New Haven football team has maintained its status as the No. 8/9 team in Division II, as announced this week by the two major national polls.
The Chargers are slotted at No. 8 in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll for the second consecutive week. The top eight teams on the ledger remained unchanged from last week after all eight squads posted victories on Saturday. New Haven is the third Super Region One team in the poll behind No. 5 Winston-Salem State and No. 6 California (Pa.).
Other Super Region One teams appearing in the AFCA poll are all from Pennsylvania: No. 10 Bloomsburg, No. 21 Shippensburg and No. 22 Indiana.
With no major upsets this weekend, the D2Football.com Media Poll was equally as stagnant. The Chargers remained at No. 9, as the top nine teams in Division II all moved to 4-0 on Saturday.
Once again, No. 6 California (Pa.) and No. 8 Winston-Salem State are the only two Super Region One teams above New Haven, with regional foes No. 12 Bloomsburg, No. 21 Shippensburg and No. 23 Indiana (Pa.) also earned a national ranking.
The Chargers are idle this week and return to the gridiron next Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. from Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium to meet Assumption. NewHavenChargers.com will present a live, high-definition broadcast of the action beginning at 12:30 p.m.
