CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of New Haven men's outdoor track and field team placed 17th at the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday on the campus of M.I.T. The Chargers totaled 16 points and were the fourth placed Division II team at the meet.

Matt Jeune (West Haven, Conn./Notre Dame - West Haven) won the New England Championship in the high jump with a new UNH record height of 2.11 meters. The height also provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Division II National Championship. The Chargers 4x400 meter relay team of
Winston Reid (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon),
Nazim Roberts-Smith (Albany, N.Y./Colonie),
Kevin Downing (Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt) and Jeune finished in ninth place with a time of 3:20.82.
In sprints,
Kevin Downing (Meriden, Conn./Orville H. Platt) finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.90 seconds. The senior also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.77 seconds. In the 400-meter dash
Winston Reid (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) finished 18th in a time of 50.60 seconds.
Joshua LeBlanc (Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake / Saint Lawrence) led the distance runners and finished 16th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:57.59.
Jeune, the only student-athlete on the men's team to hit a provisional mark for the NCAA Division II National Championships, will now wait until the NCAA announces the complete field of participants to see if his season continues. After Saturday's events, Jeune ranks 13th nationally in Division II in the high jump with the height of 2.11 meters.
