SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – With the University of New Haven women’s tennis team headed to its first-ever Northeast-10 Conference Championship,
Eva Rybka (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) has been chosen to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team.
Rybka went 1-8 at No. 1 singles, recording her first career singles win on March 30 in a 5-4 victory over Le Moyne. She teamed with
Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ) in 10 matches at No. 1 doubles, and the duo earned a 5-5 mark.
The Berlin, Conn. native is the Chargers’ first-ever All-Rookie Team selection and the second New Haven student-athlete to earn year-end recognition from the Northeast-10. Alison Mahony was named Third-Team All-NE-10 in 2008-09 – the program’s first season as a member of the conference.
Rybka joins Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year Manon Janin from American International as the only freshmen to play all of their singles and doubles matches at the No. 1 slot this season. The two rookies met on Sept. 30, but their match, tied at 3-3 in the first set, went unfinished due to rain as the Chargers had already clinched a 7-0 victory.
The Chargers begin their first Northeast-10 Conference Championship appearance on Tuesday, April 16 at Saint Michael’s. First serve between sixth-seeded New Haven and the third-seeded Purple Knights is slated for 1 p.m. in Colchester, Vt.
