The 2014 slate kicks off at DellaCamera Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 6 with a visit from West Chester for the only non-conference game on the regular season ledger. The Chargers will look to avenge last fall's season-opening loss to the Golden Rams, who advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship Semifinals and finished the season ranked No. 4 by the AFCA in 2013.
Â
Northeast-10 action begins on the road at LIU Post on Saturday, Sept. 13. The Chargers hosted and defeated the Pioneers by a score of 48-23 last season in the first-ever conference meeting between the two clubs.
Â
NE-10 play then comes to West Haven on Saturday, Sept. 20 with a visit from Assumption. New Haven won two clashes with the Greyhounds in 2013 – a road win in the regular season and a home triumph to conclude the fall on NE-10 Championship Weekend.
Â
The next two Saturdays bring the Chargers to Massachusetts with jaunts to Bentley (Sept. 27) and Stonehill (Oct. 4) for the only back-to-back road outings on the slate. The Chargers hosted both squads last season, earning a 54-10 win over the Falcons and dropping a 29-26 decision to the Skyhawks.
The Elm City Trophy will be up for grabs when the Chargers return to the blue and gold turf of DellaCamera Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 11. Crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State visits for a 1 p.m. outing as New Haven looks to retain possession of the trophy for the fifth consecutive campaign.
Â
The following Saturday, Oct. 18, marks the shortest road trip on the ledger as the Chargers head up I-91 to American International for a meeting of the two most recent Northeast-10 Champions. After New Haven bested the Yellow Jackets in the inaugural NE-10 Championship Game in 2012, AIC topped the host Chargers, 43-34, during the regular season last fall on its way to the 2013 crown.
Â
Homecoming Weekend will feature a rematch of one of the most exciting games from last season with a visit from Merrimack. The Chargers won a slugfest in North Andover, 48-41, last fall and will host the return contest this season on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Â
New Haven rings in the month of November with its final road contest of 2014, as the Chargers trek down to Ossining, N.Y. on Nov. 1 for a conference bout with Pace. The Blue and Gold blanked the Setters, 65-0, in their home opener last season.
Â
The close of the regular season sees the Chargers in search of another repeat result from 2013. Saint Anselm comes to West Haven for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 8 on the heels of New Haven's 70-26 rout of the Hawks last season.
Â
2014 marks the third season of Northeast-10 Championship Weekend, which is slated for Saturday, Nov. 15. All 10 conference squads will participate in the weekend, which is highlighted by a meeting between the top two clubs in the 2014 NE-10 Championship Game.
Â
The 2014 NCAA Division II Football Championship begins on Saturday, Nov. 22. The top six teams from each of the four Super Regions will vie for a spot in the National Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 20 in Kansas City, Kansas.
Â
This fall will be the first season for Pincince, who was named the 10th head coach in program history on Feb. 6. Including two stints as an assistant at New Haven, Pincince brings nearly 20 years of collegiate coaching to his new post. He began his career with the Chargers in 1995 as an assistant for New Haven Athletics Hall of Famer and current Oakland Raiders Assistant Head Coach Tony Sparano. He spent three additional seasons with the Chargers from 1999 to 2001 under Darren Rizzi, current special teams coordinator for the Miami Dolphins. Prior to his most recent position as offensive coordinator at NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) member Elon University, Pincince was the offensive coordinator at the University of Rhode Island and the College of the Holy Cross.
